I’ve always known about SEO, but just how deep the lines of SEO ran were unknown to me, until the past week of work at ReSoMe brought me to the light.

The Basis of SEO

SEO helps your website come up as a search result, and before others when relevant keywords are searched. In a highly competitive online marketplace with many voices, the importance of coming up first is obvious

The process of getting search engines to crawl keywords is simple. Put keywords in written content, description and in the website code like alt tags. There are many plugins to help with this task, such as the WordPress SEO by Yoast.

It’s more than just placing keywords however. Any uploaded content like videos or images should have the filename changed to reflect these keywords. These images and videos also need their HTML alternate tags to reflect your SEO keyword.

It’s a bit trickier to get your post to come up before others. It relies on a series of algorithms like how often your site is linked to by other websites, page visits, and the frequency your website is searched.

The Importance of Content

In the world of websites, content, especially visual content is king. The more quality pictures, videos, and posts you have, the better appeal your website has. Any written content should have an image or video associated with it. A post without something visual is just boring. Visual content helps sharability too. It provides sites like Pinterest or Facebook a relevant image to use when linked.

SEO Best Practices and Change

Right now the current SEO best practice is less is more. Focus on a few specific keywords. This may change, with Google’s recent SEO experimentation. Changes to SEO are no surprise.
